Library Update

Due to the detrimental impact of Hurricane Harvey, the McGovern-Stella Link Library will remain closed for the unforeseeable future. The staff recognizes the efforts of all volunteers and we greatly appreciate it. If you would like to continue to volunteer for the Houston Public Library you may get in touch with Volunteer Services. If you have any questions please contact Jesse.

Adult Fiction

If you are not assigned to shelve the Adult Fiction then please refrain from shelving any items that belong in that section. If you help out in any other section other than the one you are assigned to please make sure you know what you are doing or work with the person who is assigned to that section.

Happy Fourth of July

For those who are scheduled to volunteer on Tuesday the library will be closed in observance of July 4. We appreciate all the support you give to the staff and wish everyone a Happy Fourth of July.

Picture Books, Holiday Books, Beginning Reader Books

It has come to my attention that some books are not being shelved in the right section. There are beginning reader books being shelved in the picture book section and vice versa. Please be mindful of the labels on the books that are being shelved. There are also holiday books being shelved in the picture book section. If any picture book has a holiday label it should be shelved on the holiday book shelf. Holidays include Valentines, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. If there is any confusion as to which items go where please consult with Jesse so that we are all on the same page.

New Bluebonnet (2017-18) and Lone Star (2017) books are here!

We have received the new books for the upcoming year for both the Bluebonnet and Lone Star lists.

Starting in February all Bluebonnet books with the year label for 2016-17 will be placed on the regular shelves. All Bluebonnet books with the year label for 2017-18 will be on display in the front of the building on the wall.

All Lone Star books with the 2016 label will be put on the regular shelves. All Lone Star books with the 2017 label will be placed next to the Bluebonnet books in the front of the building as well.

Cataloged Classics

Classic novels with a call number will be shelved with the adult fiction or if it has nonfiction call number will be shelved in the nonfiction section. The other uncataloged classic novels will remain in the same area next to the magazine and newspaper section.

Overfilling Carts

This has come to my attention by management. When the bins start to overflow do not stack books on all three tiers of the wooden carts. Try also not to use the wire baskets for overflow items. The best option is to fill at least the top shelf of the cart and shelve those books immediately and then return to the workroom and grab some more.
